Wherever you look on the net you see tips and lists of how to implement SEO onto your site. The thing is you can't just go and do your SEO optimization once and be done with it. If you're going to do SEO yourself you need to take a few months and learn it yourself and then use what you learned on ongoing basis. SEO is one of those things that takes weeks and months to truly be able to see what’s working and what’s not. On top of that Google and other engines go and change their code every often, so in a way you’re always guessing what works.

When you invest the time to learn SEO you quickly learn that content is king and really the best thing for your website long term is to focus on content alone. Here are some quick tips on SEO:

1. Content is king, if you have great content eventually people will recognize and Google will recognize that you’re an expert on the subject at hand

2. Use “search engine friendly URLs”, this is a big rule, use good titles and url strings that describe the page someone is on and search engines will love you for it.

3. If you know anything about HTML coding, get right into your code, clean it up. The less complexity in your code the easier the search engines will pick it up.

4. Avoid building your entire site in Flash and IFRAMES like a plague. The search engines will not be able to read the content and you won’t rank for any keywords.

5. Use analytics, plain and simple install Google analytics ASAP, it will give you an amazing amount of information about your current site performance and your clients.

I wanted to keep these general for a purpose. See you’ll go and search digital point and webmasterworld forums and tons of blogs about SEO and everyone has their little secrets they think are gold. The truth is Google’s algorithm uses hundreds of rules that change all the time and yes there are ways to cheat the system but why do it? For a short term profit?

Concentrate on good content, update it regularly and in time your will reap the benefits. The thing is if you do exactly that, you don’t have to worry about SEO. In time people will link to you and Google will see that you have a great site on the subject matter and you will rank for whatever terms you do. You will also not have to worry about the latest SEO techniques, Google will only get better which means whatever is best for the end user will get recognized and if you’re trying to cheat the system you’ll have to spend half your energy on figuring these things out and then if Google catches you and bans you, you’ll be left scratching your head. Again content is KING
